I remember uttering “I’ll never do this again” as I crossed the finish line of my first Chicago marathon, limping and half dead. A woman next to me, at least 15 years my senior, said “don’t worry; running a marathon is like childbirth. You forget how bad it hurts and you eventually do it again.” Well, I’ve decided to do it again. Whether I’m able to accomplish that goal is a completely different story.
This time around I will be running for a charity, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. It’s an extra bit of motivation, and believe me, I need it. I trained for the last race on my own and it was really tough making it to the lakefront on 90+ degree days in August for a 15+ mile run. Running with Team Bear will give me a support network and that extra motivation to train hard and train well. Please visit the Team Bear website to see what they’re all about.
I have also agreed to raise money for the foundation, so if you’d like to help a great cause, please visit the donation website. Please select my name from the drop down menu or I won’t know you made a donation on my behalf.
And if you’re around Chicago on October 12th, come watch the race; it’s really a lot of fun.
Good luck runners!
